About

Deborah Soulier

Principal |Owner

Interior design, for me, has always been about more than how a space looks. It is about how a home feels to live in, day to day and over time.

For more than 19 years, I have led Soulier Design Studio while drawing on a much longer career in property management, building operations, and construction coordination. These overlapping experiences shaped an approach that balances beauty with function, comfort, material integrity, accessibility, and long-term livability.

I design calm, quietly refined homes that support how people actually live. Each project is guided by thoughtful planning, proportion, material awareness, and a belief that a well-designed home should feel personal, enduring, and easy to live in.

A Foundation in Building Performance

My approach to interior design is informed by 35+ years in property management, including 17 years supporting an Ontario Crown real-estate portfolio, with Infrastructure Ontario as the client.

Property management was one of my greatest educators. It taught me to see buildings not only as designed spaces, but as living assets that must function, endure, adapt, and support the people who use them every day.

That experience continues to shape how I think about space planning, materials, accessibility, maintenance, contractor coordination, building operations, and the long-term consequences of design decisions.

Today, that operational perspective informs every project undertaken by Soulier Design Studio, from early planning and material selection to comfort, durability, accessibility, and long-term performance.

Designed to Support Life Over Time

Designing for long-term livability does not mean creating a home that feels clinical or overtly adapted. Through thoughtful planning, accessible design, and subtle details, I consider how a space can support comfort, ease, independence, and changing needs over time.

This approach is often described as aging in place. I think of it more broadly as living well at home—creating environments that support daily life now while remaining functional, comfortable, and dignified in the years ahead.

Designing Around What Already Matters

I pay close attention to the personal collections, furnishings, and objects that already live within a home. Often connected to memory, history, and lived experience, these pieces help shape an interior that feels authentic and distinctly personal rather than a replication of a predefined look.

Each design is composed with these elements in mind, allowing the home to reflect the people who live there while creating greater cohesion, comfort, and meaning.
